Blue Ocea On 20,000 Acres Of Sand

- Jul 23, 2018 -

A cement trail separates the two worlds. On the one hand, it is a desert with severe desertification. The grass is not born, and the wind blows sand. On the other hand, it is a piece of blue-colored photovoltaic panel. It is tilted 40 degrees to the sky, and the absorbed light energy is converted into electric energy. The plant is full of green and green.

This is the ecological photovoltaic sand control base of Hangjinqi, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which was built by the ecological restoration enterprise Yili Group. The 600,000 photovoltaic panels that are supported on 20,000 mu of sand can not only block wind and wind, fix sand belts, but also use the resources of the Kubuqi Desert for 3,180 hours of sunshine per year. After its completion in 2016, the base has an annual generating capacity of 500 million kWh and a sales income of approximately 450 million yuan.

Under the photovoltaic power board, plants with cold and drought tolerance such as licorice and alfalfa are planted. The occlusion of the photovoltaic panel provides suitable illumination and temperature for its growth. These grasses with biological nitrogen-fixing function can not only increase the fertility of the sand, but also grow into medicinal materials and feeds, which brings economic benefits. At present, the base will hand over the management rights to 15 poor households in the local area, and the operating income will be enjoyed by them. Each household will receive an annual income increase of more than 20,000 yuan.

There are 11 local poor households supporting poultry between photovoltaic panels. The number of poultry is controlled at around 5,000. This not only increases the fertility of plants and sandy land, but also prevents vegetation from being destroyed by excessive consumption of vegetation by poultry. The water and electricity required for breeding are provided free of charge by the base and the income is shared by the farmers.

“Ecology + economy + people's livelihood” has become one of the governance models of the Kubuqi Desert. It not only improves the ecological environment, but also drives farmers and herdsmen to gradually remove the hat of “ecological refugees” and become a true portrayal of “green mountains and green mountains are Jinshan Yinshan”.
