According to the Spanish grid operator REE, from January to June this year, renewable energy production accounted for 45.8% of Spain's total electricity, an increase of 8.5%.
The output of the Spanish wind farm increased by 10.4% year-on-year to 27,779 GWh, equivalent to 22.6% of the total power generation. Therefore, wind power is the main source of electricity, followed by nuclear energy accounting for 20.6% and hydropower accounting for 16.9%.
Thanks to more rainfall, especially in the first half of this year, hydropower generation increased by 74% year-on-year to 20,821 GWh.
In the first half of the year, solar parks and concentrating solar power accounted for 4.6% of the national electricity generation.
Between 2007 and 2017, renewable energy in the Spanish power system surged by 53%. REE said it is developing a project to connect 30,500 megawatts of renewable energy to the grid.
In the first half of this year, Spain's electricity demand reached 126,411 GWh.
